No Sew Barbie Doll Dresses

>> Saturday, April 28, 2012

I remember when i was little my mom taught me how to make No Sew barbie doll dresses. Well i am sick this morning but still wanted to do something for my girls. My daughters had brought their barbies to me and we talking about how they were Princesses. I said these Princesses need some dresses and the girls seem to really like that idea.

So i grabbed some materiel, bias tape and scissors and sat back down. I could sit yet still make the dresses on my lap... which was nice. So i made these dresses:
My youngest kept bringing me the dolls and saying 'more more'

We call this one Ariel because of the red hair. An off the shoulder dress.

 Cinderella

This one we call Tiana

I liked this dress because of the built in cape :)

Outdoor Table & Bench Finished

>> Friday, April 27, 2012

A picture of our backyard after our table and bench was 100% finished. We put a sealer over the wood to keep it from weathering and turning grey, i wanted to keep as much of the natural wood color as possible. I love it all! White carpet and everything LOL (It actually cleans very easy with a spray of the hose.)

Patio Table & Bench Before Finish Applied

>> Friday, March 23, 2012

My husband put together this table (6ft-4ft) and bench out of cedar for out backyard patio. Here it is all sanded and he will apply a finish that should make it more weather resistant plus help it hold it's natural tan wood color instead of it getting that natural weathered grey color.

Looking forward to the finished product!
We are also in the process of sanded down the chairs we are repainting white to accompany the table. So there will be four chairs and one bench up to the table.
All this will sit on our 8x10 outdoor carpet which is white and tan believe it or not. LOL
I feel awfully bold getting a white outdoor carpet.... we will see how clean i can keep it hehe.

Outdoor Seat Recover Project

>> Thursday, March 22, 2012

So we are still working on our outdoor projects slowly but surely. During Spring break my husband (he's a teacher) has been working on building an outdoor table and bench for our patio in the back yard. To accompany his table last year we bought 4 chairs which we are going to sand down and paint to make it weather resistant. Along with that my hubby took the seats off the chairs and recut a seats out of pressure treated wood. We then painted it with outdoor paint. Then it was my job to recover the seats. I used foam meant for the outdoors and along with fabric that is suppose to be used outside.

(Finally all done!)

Man i am sore all over! But i can't wait to see these seats on the chairs which will eventually be painted white.

Christmas Projects

>> Monday, January 09, 2012

So we got this idea from a friend of ours from something very similar hanging in her living room. I thought it looked really cool and also pretty simple to make and we already had most of the things needed to make it.

So we made three different ones. My friends was made from an old window but we had glass paned cabinet doors that we used. We painted them white, them sanded them to make them appear distressed, then stained it over top of that. The glass panel is simply spray painted black on the back and the verse or saying is written on with a paint pen.

Then we cut out a cross out of the roughest wood we had and stained it as well.

Holiday Decor Ideas:
We already have some letter blocks like these that spell 'Joy' but i love the idea or the picture blocks! I also like the idea that the letter blacks are chalk board. Awesome idea!

We have some scrap wood that i plan on making some snowmen with for our front door :)

Sept i would make it Christmas-ie

Play Room:
Our current bedroom is fairly large with two closets. When we bought the house the room had pink heart wall paper on it... which it didn't take me to long before i was ripping that down. That is as far as we have gotten though.
We decided that instead of keeping the room we would move out bedroom up stairs. So up stairs there would be our room, a spare room and a bedroom for the girls. Right now the girls are in separate rooms but are thought is to combine the two so that our old bedroom space on the main floor would become a big play room for them.
I am excited about this... well the play room that is... kinda worried about having the girls sleep in the same room because are oldest has a hard time sleeping where our youngest sleeps awesome! We shall see.

The new play room would have a TV for watching their kid movies, i want a reading area, an art area and a house area. That would be my dream for them. Maybe build short room dividers to portion it off some?

Here are some images of things i would like to build to put in there:

Hubby plans on building this for our girls. We like the old school stuff :)
He's making part of it for Christmas, at least that is our intentions.

Main Bathroom:
I love this idea! I'm thinking of sewing on loops to all our towels so they hang nicely. Think this is awesome!

Kitchen:
I want my kitchen very old looking and vintage.

Fashion:
I've been wanting to make myself one of these costumes for years now! I love it.... like LOVE it! I know my husband would shake his head and roll his eyes at me for this, but i don't care. I think these are awesome!

Also i have been wanting again for several years to make an old fashioned bathing suit, something way more decent then what they sell. I think these are awesome.
I would be the coolest chick at the beach in one of these suckers :) It shouldn't be to hard either, just have to find the right material. I think i could pull it off!
